This is the stupidest thing Obama could have done.
Why?
Well, tell me this: who has Bill Clinton ever helped win an election?
Not Al Gore.
Not John Kerry.
He was asked to stay away from many Congressional races in 2000.
I don’t remember him doing anything in Hillary’s Senate run; if he did anything, it was minor, and she had to win that one on her own to have any credibility, anyway.
And when he tried to help her beat Obama, people openly asserted he was trying to make her lose, he did that bad.
It has been stated: Bill Clinton’s charisma and political gifts benefit Bill Clinton only. I think that’s true and accurate.
So why, of all possible desparation moves, did Obama choose to ask for Bill Clinton’s help?!?
Bonus thought: When Palin was selected to be McCain’s running mate, some predicted “The Eagleton Option” or some such thing: they felt she would so quickly be shown to be a drag on the ticket that he would have to replace her. And that would be seen as a sign of weakness and nearly an admission of total defeat.
But if Obama replaces Biden (as has been rumored; he even said Hillary would have been a better VP selection than him), I predict you won’t see anyone in the press referring to Eagleton. Moreover, I predict that it will be treated by the press as a “strong, decisive move that demonstrates Obama is the most qualified to be President.”
You heard it here, first.
